New Hero Honda Karizma Launch Soon

Hero Honda recently split from its technology partner company Honda but that has not stopped them from continuing upgrading their vehicles. In Pune, the new 2011 Karizma has been spotted and believe you me, you won’t be able to make out in the first glance. The bike looks like most other Hero Honda upgrades, almost similar to the older version.

Yes there are new features on the horizon such as new stickers, graphics and change of colours all around. The speedometer is now yellow and carriers the Karizma tag on it. Also the engine cowl is new and many features like clear lens indicators, colours are borrowed from its elder sibling the ZMR. There is no upgrade in the engine nor is there any revolutionary feature. Yes it does have new handlebars but clipons are still not there.

What you can expect is another of those HH upgrades with a slight price hike adding absolutely no real difference compared to the outgoing model. What Hero Honda should have really done was to upgrade the ZMA with ZMR clipon handle bars, given it a digital speedometer (even the Hunk has it now) and most importantly given the Karizma wider tyres. All these modifications would have really added value to the bike and then people would not have been like “Hey, the Karizma is still the one which was launched in May, 2003 with some new stickers.” Anyways the new Karizma if launched at the same price will be a good upgrade to an already excellent product from the Hero Group.

Winter Motorcycle Blues

Summer is gone and the winter has set in. Bummer, where did that time go?

I still have the feeling of the wind in my hair, bug splatter on my teeth and the rumbling vibration itch on my butt, however I just cannot get over the feeling that the long set in winter is going to be dismal and gloomy. I’m going to miss hanging out with my friends at my buddies garage, I’m gonna miss wing night at Scooters and the chicks in leather chaps and booty pants. The time spent polishing the bike, putting on those really cool new parts that I ordered online or from the catalog that sits in the bathroom and on the garage bench is all but gone, I won’t see it again until the spring. I’m so miserable. But how can I get over these Winter Motorcycle Blues?

I’ve been in the same situation many times but now I’ve compiled a short list of ways that you can get over those Winter Motorcycle Blues and they are as follows. Remember, you don’t have to take my word for it, but these are some suggestions that get me through those short days and long nights of winter.

  1. Repair Manuals – Reading the complete repair manual for your motorcycle takes your mind and puts it right there with your motorcycle. You see every part that’s on your bike, you find out new ways to maintain the bike, where things bolt on and how you can now upgrade your bike with parts and accessories. This gives you an opportunity to learn more about the bike that you ride.
  2. 10 Point Maintenance – If you’ve got a motorcycle, you really need to take this down to time to do some real work on the bike. Check the following items on your motorcycle and take care of them. I’ll elaborate more in another article. Fluids/Oil/Transmission/Brake – Chain/Belt – Tire Tread – Tire Pressure – Brakes – Battery – Electrical / Lights – Tighten Nuts and Bolts – Filters / Air / Oil etc. – Cables – Wheel Spokes and last but not least make sure your license and tags are up to date.
  3. Wing Night – Your favorite watering hole still has specials going on in the winter time and you can still keep up with some of your buddies talking about bikes, rides and upcoming Poker Runs or talk about what happened over the past year. This also gives you an opportunity to hear what others are doing with their bikes over the winter to fight the Winter Motorcycle Blues, it’s like a support group.
  4. Put New Parts On – You may get some gift cards or extra cash for Christmas and now you can get that set of grips or some new floor boards to put on your bike. Pull out your favorite catalog or get online and find the stuff that you’ve always wanted and now have the money for and get a little dirt on your hands. Just like doing the maintenance, this gives you a chance to get to know your bike better, the more you have your hands on it, the more likely you are going to find something that could have become a disaster on the first ride of the year.
  5. Watch motorcycle movies, pull out the Wild Hogs or Easy Riders DVD and put it in to get back in the zone of riding and having fun with friends.
  6. Treat your Leathers – Nows also a good time to get some of your favorite brand of leather treatment and rub down your leather coat, chaps, gloves and vest. This keeps your gear in good condition and ready to go when the weather allows for that first 50 degree day to get things going again.

These are just some of the things that I do to get over those Winter Motorcycle Blues and keep my mind on the road, thinking about the good times with friends, straightening the curves and feeling that rush of throwing a leg over your steal stallion, hearing the squeak of leather as you toss the coat on your back and turning the key and pushing the start button on your motorcycle. Synthetic motor oil offers many advantages for the big bore Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Aside from being air-cooled, Harley big bores tend to run higher cylinder temperatures because of the long stroke and comparatively smaller bore which increases the swept area in the cylinder and piston speed for any given RPM. Synthetic oils help maximize fuel economy and increase horse power by reducing friction and drag considerably compared to conventional oils. Synthetic oils such as Amsoil’s high performance synthetic motorcycle oil also offers the benefit of longer change intervals of up to twenty thousand miles or one year adding an element of convenience to the purchase of synthetic motorcycle oil.

It is a rapidly growing area of motorcycle riding, with numerous competitions set up all around the world. The final category of motorcycles – dual-purpose – is closely related to dirt bikes, being as they are simply road legal versions of the off road machines. Legal requirements such as headlights and indicators are added to allow these bikes onto the road.

You can get a set of graphics to go onto your bike, car, trailer or anything else helmet etc. . that will give you a standardised look right throughout your whole set of equipment. You can buy removable graphics, that can be used more than once.

Also if you want to sell your bike, if the new owner doesn’t like your graphics, you either have to take them off or lose the sale. That is a bigger problem if you get an artist to paint permanent graphics. You may think they are great but a prospective buyer may not like them at all. So good luck and go and have a look to see what type of graphics you consider suits your personality and not your “friends”

Now that you have packed your emergency equipment, it’s time to get down to the other essentials. A lot of this will be common sense, but it’s always good for the motorcycle tourer to have a reference. Like with almost every kind of holiday, I found that I tended to over-pack the motorcycle until I wised up on what I really needed. On the bike, weight can often be the enemy, especially if you’re an adventure motorcyclist. On the road, you can get away with packing too much, but you’ll regret it as soon as you hit a patch of sand or a nasty piece of dirt road. Hence, you should follow these rules.

  1. Unless you’re packing from a tried-and-tested list, know that you can probably do with only two-thirds of what you’ve packed. Unpack your panniers or saddlebags, and start over. You can make do with less.
  2. Do it again.

Of course, the amount you pack depends hugely on how long you are touring, how much space you have on your motorcycle, and how far out into the sticks you plan on motorcycling, in addition to the climate. Roughly, for a one- to two-week trip, you will need the following. Note that this list does not pretend to be exhaustive, but more items should be added with care.

  1. Four T-shirts
  2. One or two pairs of jeans
  3. Comfortable, all-purpose shoes
  4. Sweater (include thermal underwear if a cold snap seems possible)
  5. Four sets of underwear. Sorry – unless you’re going to get them laundered, you’ll have to wear them more than once. Your mother will not approve, of course. If you’re willing to part with some other items, you can take more.
  6. Four pairs of socks. (Same holds as for the underwear.)
  7. Travel toothbrush and toothpaste
  8. Soap – unless you’re staying in places that will provide it.
  9. Towel – a microfiber towel saves a lot of space, and dries much quicker than a normal towel.
  10. Swiss Army knife or Leatherman (I like to keep a blade in my pocket – I’ve used it more than once to dig out bees’ stingers).
  11. Sunglasses
  12. Ear-plugs (long hours on the motorcycle without protection can lead to hearing loss.
  13. A charger (battery-powered if your motorcycle does not have a socket) for your phone
  14. Luxury items, such as an iPod and a book
  15. A map – even in the age of GPS devices, I enjoy being able to look at the big picture.
  16. A soft cloth, wet on one side, dry on the other, to wipe bugs off your visor

These do not include camping items, if you’re planning on that kind of tour, and I’ll follow up on that in a future article. To reduce weight, it is always advisable to be on the look-out for travel versions of anything you plan to pack – when motorcycle touring, ounces can turn into pounds very quickly.
